A rubber busing or busing is a popular type of vibration isolator. It provides an interface between two different parts and in return energy is transmitted through the bushing. They are commonly applied in vehicle suspension system. Rubber is used to make the bushing
and sometimes polyurethane and synthetic rubber is used to make the bushing. The bushing separates the two metal objects and a certain amount of movement is allowed. The suspension parts are moved freely through the movement provided by the bushing. A common example is travelling over a large bump this bushing helps in minimizing transmission of small vibrations and noise. This is also known as anti vibration mounting or flexible mounts.
The main advantage of a bushing in comparison to a solid connection is producing less vibration and noise transmitted. Another major advantage is that no lubrication is required by them. However on the other hand there are a lot of disadvantages. There is a high possibility of detonating which can happen in presence of oil. Cold and extreme heat could also provide to be a treat. The flexibility of rubber may also decrease in certain instances.
This could highly affect the handling of the vehicle. Busing isolator could be used and applied in a number of ways. In vehicles it is used in Sway bar mounting and links, Shock absorber mountings. It is also used in Double wish bone suspension mounting. It is also used in gear sticks present in vehicles with manual transmission. This isolator is also present in Norton Commando motorcycle. One of the famous applications is in the skate boards where this is used to turn the board. Bushings are also used in fastening which is useful for transferring loads into larger areas. In the underlying structures it is present to reduce the strain of the individual fibers. It is also popularly used in balancing crankshaft. Some high speed and combustion internal engines are balanced which are often prone to the crankshaft’s tensional vibrations.
The busing isolator has the form of an annual cylinder carrying a flexible material present inside an outer tube or metallic casing. There is also an internal crush tube which holds the fixing in the threaded spigot. Different types of designs are available. This kind ofvibration rubber mount has a major difference with plain bearings. The two parts are connected by a rubber which controls the relative motion and not by fiction and shear at the interface.
